URISA Labs conduct the investigation into URISA's research agenda.
URISA Labs research and investigate questions of effectiveness, usefulness and value related to practices and information management within the geospatial profession.
The concept for the URISA Labs was spurned forward by 2 things. The first is a report by Kramer et al in 1977 on the state of advancement of Urban Information Systems and the lack of discussion and documentation of both successes and failures. Both things the authors posited are required for practitioners to be able avoid problems. The second thing was a discussion within the URISA Geospatial Management Institute on how to improve the feedback loop between the URISA Body of Knowledge (BOK) and geospatial professional practitioners.
